The Role

This role is for a Data Engineer, based in the UK (remote options).

We are looking for a Data Engineer with strong SQL and Python skills who is comfortable working across the full data lifecycle — from ingestion and transformation through to analytical modelling and calculation logic. While this is primarily a data engineering role, it also requires an analytical mindset and comfort working with mathematical and statistical concepts. You’ll play a key role in developing and maintaining data pipelines, analytical datasets and calculations that underpin our audience and marketing intelligence offerings – helping clients better understand performance, reach and effectiveness across an increasingly complex media landscape.

The role itself will involve a range of activities including:

  • Designing, building and maintaining data pipelines using SQL and Python
  • Transforming raw data into clean, well-structured analytical datasets
  • Implementing and validating calculation and validation logic for performance metrics
  • Supporting the delivery of audience and marketing intelligence products used by clients on an ongoing basis
  • Working with cloud data platforms, primarily Azure and Snowflake
  • Collaborating with analysts and consultants to ensure data structures support insight, reporting and storytelling
  • Troubleshooting data quality issues and improving reliability and performance of existing pipelines
  • Writing clear, maintainable code and documentation aligned to team standards
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of IaaS tools, templates and ways of working

The Candidate

You are a data engineer (or analytics-focused data professional) with 2-5 years experience; comfortable working with structured data at scale and motivated by solving client problems through data. You enjoy contributing to designing solutions, care about data quality, and are confident working across both technical and analytical problems.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • 2-5 years’ data engineering, analytics engineering or a closely related role
  • Strong SQL skills (essential)
  • Strong Python skills for data transformation and analysis
  • Experience working with cloud data platforms (Azure, Snowflake, AWS, GCP or similar)
  • Solid understanding of data modelling and transformation concepts
  • Comfort working with mathematical and statistical concepts relevant to analytics and reporting
  • Ability to work with ambiguous requirements and iterate towards robust solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable explaining technical concepts and data outputs to non-technical stakeholders, with support from senior team members
  • An interest in developing client-facing skills, with a clear pathway to greater ownership of client conversations over time
  • Experience working in project-based environments, collaborating with consultants, analysts or client teams
  • Demonstrate core mediasense values: curious minds, courageous hearts; stronger together, smarter together; do the right thing, always; and raise the bar, then raise it again.
  • Enjoys building robust data solutions while working closely with analysts, media subject matter experts and clients to turn data into meaningful insight

The following are preferable, but training will be provided:

  • Experience working with audience measurement, media or marketing data
  • Experience with the data visualisation tools including Tableau and PowerBI
  • Experience with workflow or analytics tools such as Alteryx
